Our Story

In the face of displacement, inequality, and limited access to services, a group of resilient refugee women came together with a bold vision: to create a safe, inclusive space that champions the rights, potential, and agency of marginalized groups. What began as a grassroots effort has grown into a vibrant organization that serves hundreds through targeted programs in gender equality, youth empowerment, reproductive health, climate resilience, and peacebuilding. We believe that those closest to the challenges are also closest to the solutions. By centering the voices and leadership of refugees, Saidia Community Initiative fosters a sense of ownership, pride, and long-term transformation within the communities we serve. The organization was founded by Conzana Cornelius, a visionary leader and refugee advocate with lived experience of forced displacement and a passion for advancing gender equity, youth development, and climate-responsive livelihoods. Over the years, Saidia has evolved into a trusted grassroots institution with a proven track record in capacity building, advocacy, and impact-oriented programming in some of the most vulnerable contexts.
